Wendy followed in the footsteps of the long line of teachers in her family and taught at the college level for many years. She understands a quality education provides opportunities for all kids to be successful and creates a strong workforce. In the legislature she fought to make schools stronger by providing teachers with the resources they need to be successful and to set every child up to be successful, regardless of the career path they choose.
In Wendy’s first term, she voted for historic tax relief by cutting taxes by nearly $3 billion. She supported the largest property tax relief package in state history. She also voted to eliminate taxes on social security and military retirement benefits. In her next term, Wendy will fight for additional property tax relief while ensuring government is efficient for taxpayers.
Access to healthcare is many families' highest expense every month and is essential for longer, healthier lives for our friends and family. Wendy is committed to making healthcare and prescription drugs more affordable for everyone.
This past year, we discovered problems at the AltEn plant in Mead, Nebraska, that was polluting the local water supply with toxic chemicals. It is imperative that we take common-sense measures to ensure that every neighborhood has clean air and water without adding burdensome regulations.
Wendy knows that the foundation to a strong community is working families. We should support businesses that are committed to paying living wages and providing quality education and skilled labor training to ensure we have the workers to go along with the jobs that are here.
The most important function of government is to keep the public safe. Wendy supports our first responders and understands the difficult job they have. It is important they have the resources they need to keep response times low and have modern and updated training to effectively handle all situations to protect themselves and the residents they serve.
Extremist policies have taken over Washington. Wendy has demonstrated that she is a leader in working with everyone to get things done for Nebraskans. She will continue to fight to preserve the nonpartisan Legislature that makes Nebraska different from Washington.
